Connecting Champions of our Community

The Community Foundation is a leader and strategic partner in several initiatives that support a regional vision to advance economic mobility for all. Grounded in data research and deep community engagement, we are working with businesses, nonprofits, public leaders and individual changemakers to develop a framework for action that will address disparities, breakdown silos, and align our collective strengths and resources around solutions that give all residents of RVA more choices and more opportunity to grow and thrive here. We are committed for the long-term, we have momentum, and we invite you to join us today to move our region forward.

Setting the Stage for our Future

The Community Foundation is working in partnership with Plan RVA and United Way of Greater Richmond & Petersburg to establish a common data set from which local leaders can develop strategies and use policy levers to create thriving communities that boost upward mobility. Richmond is one of 8 cities selected by the Urban Institute to participate in its 2024 Boosting Upward Mobility Project. Our cohort of data professionals will review local conditions that enable or prevent mobility and equity, leading to a Mobility Action Plan with priorities and strategies developed specifically for our region.

Informing & Engaging the Community

As we seek to identify regional priority areas and opportunities for collective investment, we recognize that community input and involvement is critical to our success. The Community Foundation often convenes people and partners around key issues to share insights and connect passionate individuals and organizations working towards common goals. Through a series of Civic Action Conversations, we invite the public to hear from local experts on topics that tied to upward mobility and provide space to explore what we can do as individuals to become part of the solution.

Civic Action Conversations are hosted in partnership with RVA Engage, a coalition that includes representatives from ChamberRVA, Plan RVA, University of Richmond Bonner Center for Civic Engagement, VCU Center for Community Engagement and Impact, and VPM.
