Black Philanthropy

Celebrating Black giving in Richmond

Ingenuity, generosity, and collective power have long defined Black giving in Richmond, a legacy as old as the region itself. Yet too often, these stories have gone untold. We are committed to changing that by building trust, deepening relationships, and ensuring philanthropy reflects and serves our entire community.

Our commitment

Inclusive philanthropy is a strategic priority for the Community Foundation. Black philanthropy is where long-standing relationships with donors and leaders helped shape that work, from our giving circles to the Amandla Fund for Economic & Racial Justice.

In 2021, we partnered with members of our giving circles and the Give Black® Alliance to publish Giving Black® Greater Richmond: The Legacy of Black Ingenuity & Collective Power, a report documenting how and why Black donors, leaders, and volunteers give. It affirmed the long tradition of Black philanthropy in our region and challenged us to become more representative, relevant, and responsive.

We are continuing to expand our outreach and learning to connect with more communities across our region, and everyone who shares this commitment is welcome to take part.
