Our Mission
To improve the quality of life for those living and working in Mathews by encouraging local philanthropy, establishing, and maintaining perpetual endowment funds, providing donors a vehicle to facilitate in perpetuity their charitable intent, exercising leadership in philanthropy by assessing community needs and making grants to meet changing community needs.
Who We Are
Mathews Community Foundation was formed in 1999 as a result of a conversation started by a small group of citizens. We serve donors and build philanthropic capital that supports the current and future needs of Mathews County.
MCF is one of three affiliates supported by the Community Foundation for a greater Richmond. As an extension of their mission to serve, engage and inspire people through philanthropy, the affiliate program was developed to help smaller, rural communities encourage local giving to address their own unique needs.
Our Leadership
The Mathews Community Foundation Advisory Board is a 15 person volunteer board comprised of community leaders and volunteers. They provide governance, as well as guidance for grantmaking. Staffing is provided by a small team of professionals who live in the area, with additional support from the full team at the Community Foundation for a greater Richmond.
