Why individuals and families work with us

Streamline your giving

We take care of the paperwork and record-keeping, so your time goes to the decisions that matter most. Add to your fund anytime, watch it grow through investment, and recommend grants through our online Fund Portal.

Expert guidance for thoughtful giving

Giving well takes learning, careful evaluation, and sometimes, hard choices. Our multidisciplinary team advises you on the giving tools and approaches that fit you and your family, and can research the causes you care about, so your giving is both fulfilling and effective.

Stay close to what's happening in our region

Our team keeps a finger on the pulse of the community and can point you to some of the region's most promising initiatives. Learn alongside other donors through nonprofit visits, community conversations, and small group learning cohorts, and join with others in larger investments in efforts like expanding economic mobility.

Engage your family

Giving together can build a culture of generosity that lasts for generations, but each generation can bring different perspectives and priorities. Our 21/64-certified advisors facilitate family meetings to explore shared values and navigate conversations about wealth, and our volunteer and learning opportunities help introduce younger family members to giving.

Create a legacy

We take time to understand your charitable intent and financial plans, then help you build a giving plan that supports the causes you love during your lifetime and beyond. For families, we also help plan a smooth handoff of giving responsibilities from one generation to the next.

Situations we often help with

Life changes can be good moments to plan or rethink your giving. Here are a few we see often.

A year with unusually high income A fund lets you take the deduction now and decide on grants later.

A bonus, a business sale, or a large capital gain can mean a higher tax bill. Contributing to a donor advised fund in that year gives you the deduction now, while you take your time deciding which organizations to support.

Turning 70½ or taking required distributions IRA gifts can lower your taxable income.

Once you reach 70½, you can give directly from your IRA through a qualified charitable distribution. At 73 and older, these gifts can count toward your required minimum distribution. QCDs can go to many of our funds, but not to donor advised funds.

Receiving an inheritance Honor a loved one while planning your own giving.

Many people use part of an inheritance to start a fund in a loved one’s name, carrying on their values and generosity. We can help you think through your options and how they fit with your own plans.

Wanting to involve your children Give together and pass on your values.

You can name family members as advisors on your fund and plan who will guide it in the future. Our 21/64-certified advisors can lead family meetings and values workshops, help new advisors learn the giving process, and offer practical tips for giving together.

Selling a business or property Giving before a sale can reduce capital gains taxes.

If you are planning to sell a business, real estate or another asset that has grown in value, giving part of it to a charitable fund before the sale may reduce your capital gains tax and give you a charitable deduction.

Timing matters, so talk with us and your advisors early. See the assets we accept
