Who We Are
The inspiration for the Jenkins Foundation is found in the story of Annabella Ravenscroft Jenkins, a 19th century pioneer who enlisted the support of area women to establish Retreat Hospital for the Sick, which provided health care regardless of a patient's race, class or ability to pay.
Today, the Jenkins Foundation embodies this same spirit of compassion and caring in its work by applying her vision to modern day challenges. An all-women board continues to pursue opportunities that can help expand access to high-quality, community-based health services, especially for those who are uninsured or underinsured. The aim and impact of our work is reflected in a more efficient health care delivery system and a safer, healthier and more productive community.
