Why Affordable Housing Matters
Access to affordable and safe housing is critical for the well-being of all residents. Housing stability impacts a person’s ability to maintain employment or succeed in school, to stay healthy and to build generational wealth. Affordable housing alleviates poverty, promotes social equity and economic stability in any community.
Housing Across Richmond
Recent data shows that Richmond has the second highest eviction rate in the country, regionally we have the highest number of unsheltered people in 15 years and one in three Richmond residents are cost burdened - spending more than 30% of their income on housing.
High interest rates, low inventory and big home prices have put homeownership out of reach for many and systemic inequities continue to hinder housing accessibility, especially for our Black and Brown residents.
